Choosing Your RC Vehicle: Different Strokes for Different Folks

The popularity of radio or remote controlled cars has been steadily growing with both children and adults. Not only it is considered a valuable hobby, but also it is slowly establishing its place as a sport. However, there is a lot of information to grasp if you are a beginner in this hobby. Different types of vehicles, different innovations regarding design as well as nitro, petrol or electric types of motors give different experiences to users. Each type of vehicles is built with a primary goal, for example, some are built for more power, some for speed and others for tricks and stunts. So, to get you started, here are the types of RC vehicles and what to consider when choosing one.

Buggies are off-road vehicles primarily designed for desert racing. There are two types: two-wheel and four-wheel drive which can be distinguished by the size of the wheels. They can reach high speeds and perform jumps over hills or dirt piles with ease. In addition, they have great ground clearance, full-travel suspension and knobby tires for a good grip. They can be electric or nitro powered and there are larger versions which are gas powered.

Rally Cars are usually built with a hybrid off-road tire and suspension. You can remote control them over pavements or dirt roads and are a perfect starter vehicle for RC beginners. The RC rally car can reach very high speeds and both oval track racing and road racing are popular. They are usually electric powered and make the racing very exciting. They can also be 2WD or 4WD (two-wheel drive/ four-wheel drive). It is a good idea to go for a brushed model of an RC rally car if you are a beginner as it will always run as fast as it can while in use.

Monster trucks are a large version or trucks specially designed for off-road races. They can climb, pull, crush and ride on any terrain even though they are not as fast as the buggies. Their design is similar to the full-size NASCAR and Indy-style cars. They are usually in 4WD configuration and have four large, deep tread tires. They usually run on two electric motors and nitro versions are also popular. Monster trucks are practically indestructible.
