The Skincare Routine to Help You Get Rid of Acne for Good
Did you look forward to growing out of your teenage years so you can finally enjoy a perfect complexion only to deal with frequent acne breakouts even as an adult? Chances are you're naturally prone to congestion and acne. But that doesn't mean that you can't be the proud owner of a smooth, clear and matte complexion. It only means that you need to take some extra steps to get there.
First of all, you need to understand how your skin needs to be treated. Although our first instinct during a breakout is to reach for a harsh, chemical-packed product, it's often the biggest mistake you can make. Harsh products tend to dry out the skin, which in turn, prompts it to create even more sebum. And the excess amount of sebum clogs pores and traps dirt which are the biggest causes of acne.
With that being said, it's recommended to try a milder product that includes soothing, natural ingredients. But how will you know which products to avoid, and which ones to focus your attention on? Well, a helpful tip is to avoid formulas that contain harsh ingredients such as Benzoyl Peroxide which is popular due to killing off bacteria swiftly. Another potentially irritating ingredient is Azelaic Acid, which although being an efficient exfoliator is also known to cause inflamed and itchy skin.
So instead of these irritating products, opt for natural skincare for acne that includes a blend of Salicylic Acid with organic ingredients such as eucalyptus oil and tea tree oil. While Salicylic acid helps kill the acne-causing bacteria, tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil get rid of the dead skin that clogs the pores and soothes the inflammation that often appears with breakouts. Other natural ingredients which help cleanse and reduce the appearance of pores are willowherb and quince. If you feel like the products aren't working, you can try a product that includes active charcoal as it can penetrate deeper into the skin to remove toxins and unnecessary oils.
But besides choosing natural skincare for acne, in order for the products to show results, you need to stick to a routine. The first step is to use a purifying gel cleanser which will remove the dirt and oil buildup in your pores. Apply a small amount of the cleanser on the skin and gently massage it into the skin only to rinse thoroughly. After this, it's recommended to leave your skin to air-dry. If not possible, pat it dry lightly with a clean towel.
Now that your pores are clean and open, gently apply toner over your face to help them seal off. The toner also helps minimise the shine. It's important to never skip this essential step for oily skin types as the toner helps tighten your pores which gets your face ready for the moisturiser. Although people with oily skin tend to overlook applying a moisturiser, it's really important to do so. With the cleansing process, your skin is completely stripped of its oils which help it stay healthy and youthful. So, by applying a light moisturiser, your skin is properly hydrated.
